Cat Fences! Keep Your Cat Safe Outside!
If you have a cat, then you have probably struggled with the decision as to whether or not he should be an indoor or outdoor pet. Personally, I keep my cat, Norman, inside as the dangers of the outdoors are just too great. Norman was once a stray, so I am certain that he occasionally misses being outside. After all, some of his favorite past-times were chasing bugs, sleeping in sunbeams and playing with other neighborhood felines. Ahhhh, the good life.
Solution: Buy a Cat Fence!
Well, if you are like me and the thought of letting your cat outside makes you nervous, why not check out cat fencing! "Cat fencing", you ask? What in the world is that? Well, there are several companies that actually make fences which are designed to keep your cat IN your yard. If you don't want to fence your entire yard, then you can simply build a safe, outdoor enclosure. Now don't get me wrong, these special "cat enclosures" are not meant to be used as permanent housing…only as occasional play areas.
Purr-Fect Fence, for example, is a family owned, mail-order company that has been in the fencing business for over fifteen years. They started out with fencing that was designed to keep deer out but have since gone into the business of keeping cats in! Not only do cat owners purchase their special fencing, cat rescue groups and shelters do as well. In fact, Purr-Fect fence offers discounts to rescue organizations (nice!).
If you don't want a cat enclosure but have an existing fence that surrounds your property, Purr-Fect Fence offers a fence conversion system which will "cat proof" your existing fence! What a great idea! I would most definitely allow Norman to once again go outside if I was certain he could not escape! The fence conversion kit costs approximately $400. Obviously, prices vary depending on the size of the fence you wish to convert.
Measure & Do Your Homework!
Kitty Fence (or Critter Fence) is another company that sells cat fencing and enclosure solutions. Who knew that cat fencing was such a big business! The Kitty Fence Company sells near invisible, escape proof cat fences that are designed to keep your frisky feline safe as they play and explore the outside world! They sell "non electric" cat fencing solutions (thank goodness, I don't think my cat would enjoy being electrocuted!). Prices vary depending upon the size of your yard and of course, the type of fencing you are interested in. Before you contact any company that sells cat fencing, it would be a good idea to measure the space you wish to fence so that you know exactly how much fencing you will need to purchase. This is the best way to get an accurate price quote. As I say in many of the HUBS I write, do your homework people! Knowledge is power and the more you know BEFORE you contact any company, the better!
Cat fencing is a wonderful idea for cat owners who feel guilty about NOT letting their cats outside. While I don't exactly feel guilty about keeping my cat Norman indoors (after all, I know what is best for him) it would be nice if he could occasionally go outside and get some fresh air. I purchased a cat harness for Norman and attempted to take him for a walk…but let's just say that didn't go very well. Unfortunately, I don't own a home with a large yard; therefore, cat fencing isn't a practical solution due to my current living situation. If I ever move to my dream home with a HUGE yard, I will consider building an outdoor cat play enclosure. Until then, my cat, Norm, will have to live with simply gazing out the window. After all, it is easier to care for your cat or kitten inside of you home than it is outside! Meow!
